We are delighted to announce that our founder Barbara Schönhofer has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2018 Birthday Honours List in recognition for her services to women in business.
Throughout her career, Barbara has sought to develop women to take on senior leadership roles, particularly in the insurance sector. Most notably, she founded the Insurance Supper Club (ISC); she has led the Women in Risk pillar of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Insuring Women’s Futures (IWF) programme; and, as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers, helped to establish the Independent Women in Insurance Network (iWIN).
Dame Inga Beale DBE, CEO of Lloyd’s and an ISC Ambassador, said:
“For well over a decade Barbara has devoted herself to encouraging the advancement of female leaders in the insurance profession. I personally, as well as numerous others, have benefited from the courage she has given us and the networks she has opened. Her tireless efforts have literally helped to change the face of the London market.”
Sian Fisher, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Chartered Insurance Institute and an ISC Committee Member, said:
“Barbara has mentored an entire generation of leaders across the insurance sector. Through her encouragement and experience, she has led firms to look beyond the traditional backgrounds for those who take senior roles, helping to make our sector more diverse. While we still have a long way to go, Barbara will always be considered one of the true pioneers of greater diversity and inclusion in insurance.”
Tim Carroll, Master of the Worshipful Company of Insurers, said:
“Barbara’s support for the women in our profession is widely known. The Worshipful Company of Insurers is delighted to see that this has been recognised and we look forward to our continuing collaboration with Barbara on these important issues.”
