On Friday 11th March 2016, WOW – Women of the World Festival at London’s Southbank Centre, will feature ‘Insuring Women’s Futures’, sponsored by AIG and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). ‘Insuring Women’s Futures’ follows a year long collaboration by female thought leaders in the insurance industry via the Insurance Supper Club (ISC). This represents a move by the industry towards a more creative, inclusive and contemporary approach.
Founded in 2011 by Jude Kelly CBE, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre, WOW has become the leading global festival for gender equality. Alongside a celebration of the achievements of women globally, WOW highlights the risks faced by women in society today, and debates how they can protect themselves from the risks of tomorrow.
‘Insuring Women’s Futures’ was conceived following participation in WOW 2015, recognising the role the insurance community plays in relation to Women & Risk. In bringing together AIG, a global insurance provider, and the CII, the industry professional body, as sponsors of WOW London 2016, and the Southbank Centre, it challenges out dated perceptions of the insurance industry within the broader community, and at the same time encourages the necessary innovation to modernise thinking in terms of women, society and risk. The WOW Insurance Committee for the sector’s involvement in WOW London 2016, which was first introduced by Barbara Reeves and Catherine Bell, and project led by Jane Portas, Sian Fisher and Barbara Schonhofer, together with the ISC, are immensely proud to be instrumental in this first and extraordinary collaboration between the arts and insurance.
‘Insuring Women’s Futures’ recognises the important role the insurance industry plays in relation to Women & Risk: understanding women’s risks in society (Women at Risk), providing risk solutions (Women as a Risk), and harnessing female talent (Women in Risk). In conjunction with WOW, the CII will be launching a microsite www.insuringwomensfutures.co.uk including further details of this programme of change to reinvent insurance for women. The ISC is delighted that Inga Beale will be the Patron of Insuring Women’s Futures.
WOW London 2016 takes place 8th through 13th March with WOW Friday focusing on power, politics and women in the workplace. It looks at how insuring women’s futures – in areas including healthcare, entrepreneurship, science and technology, community development, education, business and politics – can lead to a more stable society for all. It offers the ability to network with women from across the career and job spectrum, and to hear from a range of female business leaders including members of the ISC: Inga Beale (CEO, Lloyd’s of London) discussing Bringing Your Whole Self to Work, and Romaney O’Malley (General Manger AIG Belgium & Luxembourg) contemplating Disruption, together with Julia Friend (Head of Talent AIG EMEA) debating female talent and careers in It’s a Jungle Gym, not a Ladder.
